AussieMite: the verdict
It’s crap.
It’s a blandified version of a yeast extract spread. On a Marmite jar, the first listed ingredient is “yeast extract”. In contrast, AussieMite has “yeast extract” as the fourth listed ingredient (after corn extract, maltodrexin and corn thickener). In other words, this is a corn-based spread with some yeast extract added to it.
I can see what the makers are trying to do. Aware of the polarising effect of both Marmite and Vegemite, they have created a more bland yeast extract product that they hope will appeal to some of those who are put off by the stronger taste of those two iconic spreads. I think this strategy will fail. People who like Marmite and Vegemite will reject this ersatz spread, while people who don’t will probably still find it unappealing however much the yeast extract content is diluted.
I now have a partially-used jar of AussieMite that’s free to anyone who wants it.
There’s a new kid on the block in the world of yeast extract spreads - AussieMite. As you may have guessed, it’s from Australia and it boasts on its back label that it’s “Australian made and owned”. This is clearly intended as a dig at Australia’s iconic Vegemite spread, which is now owned by the American Kraft Foods conglomerate. I bought a 300g jar for a rather pricey £4.99. I’ll try it tomorrow and give it a full and fair review. It can’t be any worse than Vegemite, can it?

This is the first ever skateboard video to make it on to The Marmite Channel. It introduces a radically innovative method of consuming the savoury yeast extract spread.
Marmite
“A history of Marmite, made for Arte Television in France.”
I was happy to be able to add this to The Marmite Channel.
Bapteme de Marmite
French people try Marmite for the first time. I think they spread it on a pancake. C’est bizarre.

This cat really, really likes Marmite on toast. I added this without hesitation to The Marmite Channel.
